Because you are the women of tomorrow, I am here today to speak to you on why it is so important to stand on your own two feet. My mother in an unconscious way taught me this as she worked two jobs to make ends meet. As I grew up, I had two role models my mother and grandmother. Now although these women were very different in their styles and values they both had an affect on who I became as a woman.
I was about your age when I began discovering what mattered and did not matter to me. Causes and ideas that I believed in and why. I could also tell you why they were important to me. Now that's something you must soon do.
We as women have come along way and have a choice as to who we are going to be and how we are going to live. While it's true we can be mothers and wives it is also true we can be so much more. We can be Doctors, Lawyers, Congress Women, Motivational Speaker, and Authors. The Sky is the limit.
Now during those spring evenings as I sat under the shade tree sipping tea, my grandparents told me why it was so important to do three things; save money, get good grades and finally stay away from boys.
These stories usually came on the heels of my doing something in those areas like ask for something after I had already spent my allowance, show them my report card with below "Cs" and pay particular interest in a boy.
My grandma would tell me that I could be anything I wanted but not with the grades I was getting. I simply must do better. Regarding money, I must learn to save for a rainy day. I was told to weigh the pros and cons of buying on impulse. However the conversation about boys didn't really began until I was in high school and started showing an interest in one particular boy.
In conclusion, here is why it is so important; an education gives you the skill and knowledge to be anything you want. Money is what determines how you will live and staying away from boys will insure that one and two are established before you include others in your life. However, at a time you are ready and not before.
