Mo'Nique is one of the best loved female comedians of the new millennium. She was born in Woodlawn, Maryland on December 11, 1967. Her parents are Steven Imes, Jr and Alice Imes.Her birth name is Monique Imes but she is known simply as Mo'Nique to those who truly enjoy her comedy. She is best known for her comedic acts. She is spontaneous and honest in her approach. Her humorous perspective puts a smile on listener's faces time after time. She was co-host on the morning show on WHUR radio in Washington, D.C. but stepped down in the summer of 2002 prior to the birth of her twins. She has her own talk show simply called, "Mo'Nique." She does her own monologue and then interviews interesting guests in her own unique style. She asks those questions we all want to know the answers to; but we're afraid to ask. The Mo'Nique Show still airs weekly on BET. Recently, Mo"Nique has won acclaim for her starring role in Precious. The film is about domestic and sexual abuse. IT sends a clear message to speak up and get out. Mo'Nique played the role because of abuse she suffered in her own life. She stated that doing the movie helped her come to grips with her former abuser. She has been nominated for many awards and won 32 total so far. Mo'Nique is one of seven actresses to win five popular awards in the same year. In 2009 she won the Screen Actor's Guild, BAFTA, the Critic's Choice Award, a Golden Globe and an Oscar. She has also co-authored two books. In 2003 she released "Skinny Women are Evil; Notes of a Big Girl in a Small-minded World." Then in 2006 she released her book, "Skinny Cooks Cannot Be Trusted." Mo'Nique is a well-rounded artist and her talent spans several different arenas. She is at ease interviewing and being interviewed. She has been on the covers of both Essence and Ebony magazines. Her unique style and transparency wins favor with audiences of all sorts. Her favorite quote is, " I don't think anyone should be in control of a relationship.
